Upgrades Explained. 2015 vs. the 2014 Hibermate.

Posted by Chris Thomas on January 15, 2015. 2 Comments

Hey guys

In this post I want to take you through the main changes to the new 2015 compared to the 2014 model and also let you know what I'm hoping to work on this year later on in this update.

I've also tried to show the upgrades using images towards the end of this post as well.

So, what's changed?

Well, we've had tons of feedback from amazing previous customers, some of which has been great, and some of which, well, hasn't.

There's been some fairly critical feedback justifiably leveled at various aspects of the last model. So, in no particular order and without any sugar coating, most people had issues with...

  1. the packaging - it wasn't very good,
  2. the comfort levels over a long period of wear, and critically,
  3. the disappointing level of sound reduction.

So all last year I was listening and collating all the feedback and working hard...

How to fall asleep faster in 2015

Posted by Chris Thomas on January 13, 2015. 1 Comment

Aside from the really obvious and usual ‘avoidance advice’ of, “don’t drink coffee, don’t drink alcohol, don’t eat sugar, don’t stare at a screen, don’t work late etc” I thought I’d compile a list of things you should consider to help you fall asleep faster this year…

  1. Maximise your bedroom’s sleep potential.

I think this is the number 1 most important thing you need to do to ensure you can get to sleep fast! You absolutely need to ensure your bedroom is as dark and as quiet as you can make it. Rubber backed curtains are great, they keep light out, help with insulation and can reduce outside noise too. Of course, if you can, make sure your bedroom is the right temperature, so try and aim for between 65° and 68°F (about 20°C).

If noise is an issue, consider double glazing. But before you dismiss the idea...

Christmas Holidays and New 2015 Hibermate update

Posted by Chris Thomas on January 06, 2015. 0 Comments

The family and I flew home from Hong Kong to Australia for the Christmas Holidays and we just got back to Hong Kong on Sunday. It was a whirlwind tour seeing friends and family as well as having a small break by the sea side at a small sleepy township called San Remo, near Philip Island, Victoria.

Obviously, we caught up with my fabulous friend and colleague Paula who held everything together over Christmas, answering most of your enquiries and fulfilling orders during what was a very busy Christmas for us this year.

Paula received the new 2015 Hibermates last Friday the 2nd of January - about a week later than planned, but they're now available for sale - I've removed the pre-orders! Paula shipped hundreds yesterday and with sales the way they are over the last few days, I'll need to place a new order with suppliers in the coming...

Traffic from OzBargain went crazy yesterday!

Over the past few months I've been listening to the excellent business podcast Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn.

Pat gets to interview some amazing guests, my favourite being Tim Ferriss (author, The Four Hour Work Week, The Four Hour Body & The Four Hour Chef) among many others.

In one of his episodes with Gary Vaynerchuk, there was a long discussion about research and learning more about your audience and their needs. One of the tips was to create a simple Poll on your website and ask people why they were dropping by and what there problems were.

I happen to use a wonderful Analytics tool called Lucky Orange. I won't go into the in's and out's of the product other that to say it features a 'poll' creation app as part of the offering. So I created a simple poll, which if you're...

Product photography photo-shoot today...

Posted by Chris Thomas on December 10, 2014. 0 Comments

Had a really fun morning this morning!

I grabbed 12 masks (2 of each colour) and headed over to meet up with Danny and Sean at their Product photography studio in Hong Kong. We spent the morning (and early afternoon) taking fresh new product shots of the new Hibermate.

Above: Danny shooting the Pitch Black Hibermate Mask in the 'tent' .It looks dark, but there were massive, bright flashes firing on each shot.

The finished photo's are being retouched for the next couple of days (just removing specks of dust etc - we're not doctoring the photo's!) and hopefully they'll be ready on Friday so I can share them here with you.

New Hibermate Sleeping Masks have been shipped to Hong Kong and Australia

Posted by Chris Thomas on December 07, 2014. 0 Comments

On Friday afternoon some of the new Hibermate sleep masks arrived here at our apartment in Hong Kong.

The Australian component set sail on the ship on Friday as well!

The shipment from Shenzen to Amazon FBA in the US has still waiting to go as I wait on the EIN number from the IRS (so many acronyms!)

I'll be taking the new masks in for a photo-shoot this week so that hopefully we'll have some nice shots for the website, Amazon product pages & for general media and promotional uses. Here are some rather hasty and amateur shots I just took of the new version, nicely boxed up and ready to go!

With any plan, you set goals.

Well, I do anyway. Not sure about you.

In fact, every day when I wake up and swing into action (i.e. making the kids lunches, getting them breakfast and then taking them to school) I come back to our apartment and start my 5 hours of work before I set off to pick the kids back up from school again.

I have a very short 5 hour window of 'getting stuff done'.

As soon as I sit down with coffee on hand, I print out my daily task list and write down my daily tasks that need to be accomplished that will get me closer to my medium and long term goals.

If you like you can download my task list here. It's not particularly interesting nor high tech, but it works for me and has been a successful 'habit' for many years. It keeps...

Everything is ready to ship from from Shenzen to Amazon FBA, USA & Australia!

Posted by Chris Thomas on November 27, 2014. 0 Comments

Today was my last visit to Yowa in Shenzen for a little while. Hopefully I'll be back again early in the New Year - it's a really fun and dynamic place.

Raymond and I spent a couple of hours working through some of the shipping details so NRR (the freight forwarding company) will receive the cargo properly in Hong Kong before it's exported to Amazon FBA in the United States and my colleague Paula, Australia.

While Raymond worked the phones to NRR in Hong Kong (Raymond speaks and reads 5 languages fluently, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, English and Portuguese - amazing!) I went to the warehouse with Sunny and Danny to inspect the shipments and make sure everything is going where it's supposed to.

It's looking good. We're on schedule.

Here are some photos of today's visit.

China visit to quality-check production - with behind-the-scenes video...

Posted by Chris Thomas on November 22, 2014. 1 Comment

This morning I got up quite early and caught the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) from Hong Kong to the Shenzen border-crossing at Lo Wu. I caught up with Raymond (who owns the factory where the Hibermate is being assembled and packaged) and then went across into Shenzen.

It was a really fun day where we finalised everything concerning shipments to Amazon's FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) warehouses/centers in the United States.

Our Amazon Shipping Plan will see about 2,400 Hibermates in 6 colours go to 3 different FBA warehouses in California, Indiana and Pennsylvania. The balance of the production run will be shipped to Melbourne, Australia which will handle the domestic (Australian) and international orders from this website for the next few months at least.

I have no idea whether the Hibermate will be a success on Amazon so we've sent a small amount from this production run to 'test the waters' and see.
