Exchange Rates and your Credit Card - What's it all about?

A quick summary

Prices are shown in your local currency but transactions
use the advertised Australian Dollar amount...

Hibermate Ltd - retailer of the now world-famous "Hibermate sleeping mask" is based in Melbourne, Australia. Because we're in Australia, we have to sell our product in Australian Dollars - Also Known As - "AUD"

Therefore, the Shopping Cart and the Checkout + Shipping total you see will be in Australian Dollars.

This also means that your credit card will be charged in AUD.  However, this is quite normal, and your bank will do all the hard work for you and itemize this back in your local currency on your card statement (showing the original AUD amount and exchange rate).

Luckily for most international customers, the Australian dollar is a bit of a basket-case and you'll find the prices in your local currency are a lot cheaper!

So what exchange rate do we use?

Hibermate's system does not perform any exchange rate conversions.  Our prices are set as static AUD prices.  However, to help you get an idea of the value, Hibermate makes use of a service supplied by JAZconvert to display prices in your normal home currency.  This is only an approximate guide and information service, and is not in any way connected or associated with the total charged.  JAZconvert also allows you to change your "home" currency selection, so that you can see prices in over 45 currencies if you wish.  Just click on the price itself, and a pop-up window will appear, showing a list of currency choices.

JAZconvert tries to detect your home currency and display an approximate guide price with our AUD price (if it can't work out where you are, it will default to USD.  If that is incorrect, just click on the price and use the pop-up window to select your correct home currency).  JAZconvert inform us that their rates are updated once per day from the OzForex web service, based on the "interbank" or "spot" rates.  Again, this is just for you as a guide - the shopping cart will use Australian Dollars for transactions.

Our website prices are set, and reviewed for adjustment on a 6 monthly basis.

If you want a rough guide as to working out the USD price from the AUD price, multiply the amount by 0.75.

Why is the exchange rate on my card statement slightly different?

It is likely that the exchange rate used by your bank may be slightly different to the rate provided by JAZconvert at the time you viewed our prices.  This will result in a slightly different total than you saw when shopping at our site.  By their very nature, exchange rates are fluid and changeable, and this is just accepted as part of shopping on the internet.  Our friends from Canada know this already, having purchased items from US websites.

If you need any more information or clarification, please email me (Chris) at info@hibermate.com and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
